Hulme Street launch event Saturday 14th September 2pm-6pm

HulmeStreetHulme Street is almost finished, and we’ll be having an event to celebrate the reclaiming of a commuter car-park covered in broken glass, to a people-focussed space for the residents of the Redbricks, and everyone who passes through the new Hulme Street park: community art work, edibles for both humans and animals, herbs and medicinal plants, habitats and adult fitness and play areas.

The launch event will be on Saturday 14th September 2pm-6pm. Everyone will be receiving a leaflet about it, through their door, over the next week or so, so folks not on Shout will also get this information. There will be loads of good stuff going on including:

Pedal-powered fruit smoothies
Skateboarding
Hula-hooping
Vox pops
Solar powered DJ rig
Circus skills
Face painting
Container/balcony gardening packs
Giant Jenga & Connect 4 made from sustainable wood
Bentley Bike Club
DIY starter packs
Free food
UHC will be officially ‘opening’ their birdhouses!
…and lots more!

Hulme Street is a tenant-led project that’s been made possible through external fundraising and money from City South, so they will also have an information stall at the event.

Do let us know if you’d like to organise an activity and/or help out on the day. What we’re also missing is a stall about recycling and upcycling so if anyone is keen and knowledgeable or knows someone who is, please let us know as it’d be great to promote recycling and upcycling on the estate. Also, any budding musicians out there, do let us know if you’d like to play as we’d like some live music alongside the DJs.
