problems with new entry doors…

Poster found on ground, having fallen off bin-shed door:

WE HOPE YOU LIKE YOUR WASHING MACHINE!

Because it is the last one you will ever be able to get inside your flat now that the new security doors are fitted.

At 27 inches wide they are 2 inches narrower than the minimum legally allowable fire door.

6 flats with the only access being a tiny 27 inch wide gap – it is ridiculous

ANY LARGE FURNITURE WILL NOW HAVE TO BE SAWN INTO PIECES TO GET IT OUT and you can forget about getting a new sofa, because you will never be able to get it into the flats (unless you remove one of the windows and winch it in)

City South surveyors have taken no account of the fact that the new hinge and locking system of the new doors make them nearly 1/4 narrower.

The entrance hall should have been, or will have to, be widened to accommodate this or a different door system be used. This is ridiculous and unacceptable.

The doors on the odd-numbered side are fine and wide due to the larger entrance halls, but half the street has been, or is about to be, sealed in with only a tiny gap to get in, or (more worryingly) get out of our flats.

Anyone visiting the flats on our side, the evens side, with a wheelchair, or a large pram would have to leave it outside in the rain.

SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE BEFORE THE CONTRACTORS MOVE OFF-SITE AND WE ARE STUCK WITH THESE DOORS.

Inform City South before they seal these ridiculous access gaps in permanently!

Measure your door opening to see what I mean
Minimum legal fire door width – 75cm
New security door gap (when open) – 68cm!!!
