Hulme Street funding success!

Bentley House TARA and City South Manchester are proud to announce that the transformation of Hulme Street is going ahead. TARA have won £43,478 from the Community Spaces programme for the Hulme Street Edible Corridor project and CSM will also contribute £100,000 to the work.

The proposal HulmeSt Option 5A has got planning permission. It looks different from the options that many residents commented on in August 2011. Why does it look different? The large amount of varied comments by residents were considered by City South and turned into a proposal that was submitted to the City Council’s Planning Department.  Then the police and others also commented on the proposal. Their comments had to be taken into account. Option 5A is the outcome of this long process.

There will be opportunities for residents to be involved in the design of the art work. This is expected to happen in July/August 2012. Timing for this is not ideal but the time constraints for Community Spaces funding are very tight. In the autumn there will be sessions to plant the community garden and the bare root trees and to create the mini-habitats for birds, bats and bugs. These sessions will be advertised nearer the time. It should all be ready for a big launch party in December 2012!

The first phase of the work on Hulme Street will start in July 2012. It is expected to be complete in December 2012. Further details of the work will be sent to all residents by CSM shortly.
