Redbricks Intranet Collective (RIC) maintain the intranet that covers much of the estate and its Internet access.
Contact: Email: ric@redbricks.org
Telephone: 07813-197-710 (Orange network) (leave a descriptive message including a way we can contact you)
Payment: Internet access per flat costs £5 for 1 user, £7 for 2 users or £9 for 3 users, per calendar month. Intranet access is free. After you’ve provided an email address, a password and paid, you’ll receive an account to login with for Internet access.
Our prefered means of payment is a bank standing order. You can setup a standing order within your Internet banking facility, you can print the form attached to this page, or you can collect a form from RIC
The RIC bank account number is 65273209 and sort code is 08-92-99. Please set a payment date of the 15th of each month and use as our reference either your name or your RIC username so we know who the payment is from. Let us know as soon as you’ve done this.
Alternatively you can pay by cash or cheque in person. You can do this on the second Monday of each month at the TARA office at 26a Humberstone Ave, between 5pm and 7pm only. Please ensure you bring the correct amount, as we may not have any change. Please consider setting up a bank standing order as that takes a lot less of our volunteer time to administer. Volunteering:RIC is a volunteer run community group that meets regularly. RIC needs more volunteers. There are a number of different things that you can do to help us out. We need help with our communications, including answering the emails that we get and contacting people to solve problems. We need people to help connecting people. Connecting up the cables isn’t as hard as you might think, and it’s really rewarding to get people online.Anyone is welcome to come to RIC meetings. All matters are discussed – social, technical, financial, etcetera. All sorts of help is required, not just technical. RIC meetings are currently held every 2nd Thursday of each month at 7pm in the TARA office, 26a Humberstone Avenue. Sometimes this varies, so best to get in contact first if you want to get involved. Thanks.
If you can help in any way, technical or other, then please get in touch, we’ll invite you to a meeting. redbricksintranet @googlemail.com
Terms & Conditions of Use
Your continued internet use requires that you do not download or upload more than a combined total of 50GB per month (similar to BT’s ‘heavy user’ service which costs over £31/month plus line rental and a long contract).
Everything you download or stream adds up, e.g. a 44 minute 640×360 dots per inch resolution film is 0.5GB large; or, the BBC’s iPlayer streams at 350 megabytes per hour in standard definition (as of early 2009). We monitor the total each person downloads.
Don’t use peer2peer software as it tends to act very aggressively, consuming concurrent Internet connections at a massive rate, slowing down Internet access for everyone else in favour of yourself. We consider this a very unfriendly act and will act to cut you off should you do this. Shoring our systems against peer2peer software costs us time, effort and money. Despite our efforts it still isn’t possible to block all peer2peer use. Dealing with peer2peer software in real-time whilst it is actively consuming Internet connections is labour intensive and demoralising.

Shout is a redbricks email list currently with about 80 members. It serves as a community noticeboard and is a way of communicating info and having discussions relevant to local stuff. It is one of the best ways of keeping in touch with things going on on the estate.
